Sharing Work in Progress

Writers: Do you share your work prior to publication? There’s a growing trend of virtual collaborating, as in, posting your work while it’s still in progress and soliciting feedback from other writers. One such creative community is Zoetrope Virtual Studio, part of Francis Ford Coppola’s empire. Is the input valuable enough to risk having your ideas “appropriated” by someone else? Anyone have experience with this sort of collaboration?
