Walk the Path

If you live long enough, you’ll make some mistakes.
You may react by no longer taking risks so you won’t be hurt.
You may decide to learn from them and turn down a new path.

If you live long enough, you’ll express an opinion.
Somebody may be offended and you may decide not to speak your mind again.
You may decide that the truth, tempered with tact, only sets you free.

If you live long enough, you’ll inflame some emotions.
Somebody’s gonna hate you. You’ll have to learn to live with it.
Somebody’s gonna love you. You’ll have to learn not to live for it.

If you live long enough, you’ll reach a conclusion.
Judge yourself by numbers like age, weight, SAT score, net worth, tax bracket.
Decide that the content of your character and peace of mind matter more.

Oh Ruth – I absolutely LOVE this! If you live long enough you do have to learn to live with it, and without it! Perfect!

    Luv this it’s perfectly written;
Somebody’s gonna hate you. You’ll have to learn to live with it.

Not live for it -very wise indeed, thank you for posting.

      Hi Brenda,

I’m so glad you said that, because when I wrote it, it occurred to me that our whole culture seems based on, “make sure everyone loves you!” And then when they don’t, we feel so deflated and lost. When we’re lucky enough to find love, we have to find that weird balance of, I love you fully, but I don’t let my whole being hinge on your love. So when I wrote it, I wondered if people would think I was saying not to believe in love. Glad you “got” me!

      Thanks for commenting!

      Peace & Blessings,

      Ruth

Thanks, Deb! It really is the ebb and flow of life, isn’t it? Sometimes we’re the toast of the town, other times, just toast! 🙂 Can’t let how we feel hinge on it, though. Hope all is well in your world, dear Debbie!

    Blessings,

    Ruth
